Medik8 C-Tetra Vitamin C Serum

I’ve been on the prowl for a stable vitamin C product to introduce to my skincare for a while. The one I had my eye on was an AlumierMD 3 month serum set, but it is £149, so I’ve had to put that on the back burner for now – botox comes first y’all!

I found this brand on Cult Beauty & after doing some research, I believed in the product & the fact that the vitamin C wouldn’t degrade over time rendering it useless.

Just a bit of background info – Vitamin C is great for the skin as it is a powerful antioxidant. It neutralises free-radicals that could potentially age you faster & damage skin cells. It helps your body also repair cells too as well as lightening hyperpigmentation & evening out skin tone. It works amazingly alongside retinol – they both bring out the best in each other!

The reason why this brand stood out to me was because of the breakdown of ingredients & the explanation as to why their vitamin C wouldn’t degrade over time. Medik8 use a form of Vitamin C called tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate – this can penetrate deep into skin. Medik8 also formulated this serum in a water-free environment to protect from degrading.

The scent of this is to die for. It’s a mild orange scent, not too overpowering, but nice & refreshing for mornings! The 2 main ingredients are vitamins C & E – E is included for it’s hydrating & moisturising properties.

Medik8 call this a serum, however I find it hard to describe the texture. It’s an oily based serum, yet a watery oil… I think this is because of the jojoba oil in it. If you have ever used jojoba oil, you’ll know it’s a very dry oil. It doesn’t feel slippy or slimy etc, it’s just there! I don’t know how else to explain it!

I was a little concerned at first about applying this in the mornings as I thought it would disrupt my makeup application. I apply 4 drops of this to my fingers & then pat it into my skin rather than rubbing or massaging. I then leave it 3-4 minutes & apply my SPF. I don’t use moisturiser in the mornings, I find the SPF I use is great for both.

This soaks in brilliantly! Within a couple minutes all I am left with is a healthy looking glow to my skin! I’d use it on its own if I could! It didn’t leave behind any sticky or oily residue & my SPF & makeup sat on top perfectly with no pilling or separating!

Over the past month of using it, I have noticed if I’ve had spots, the dark marks that are left behind do fade a lot quicker. However, I’m not using it for the short term benefits – I want this to be part of the anti-ageing process, so I’m definitely thinking long term.

For now though, I am appreciating its glowing finish it’s giving & the lack of breakouts from adding it to my routine. I did try the Nip & Fab Vitamin C serum last year & it broke me out terribly – as soon as I stopped using it, my skin definitely calmed down. Since I’ve been using this, I’ve had no negative impact on my skin at all!

I’d definitely recommend this Vitamin C serum if you’re looking around to add one to your routine. It’s light & easy to apply & you know it’s going to be effective down to the last drop due to its formulation!

On Medik8’s site also, they do an ‘intense’ version, so I am tempted to go up to this one once I finish this bottle. I will keep y’all updated….
