So it’s been a while since Lush brought out their two most recent new fresh face masks. One being this one – Rosy Cheeks. And the other is Don’t Look at Me. When I first saw them, this one stood out to me the most as I’ve suffered with redness on my cheeks a lot over the past ten years, and nothing seems to get rid of it. This face mask is £7.25 – I’m sure they’ve risen in price since the last time I bought one. However, if you return five black pots to Lush, you can exchange them for a free fresh face mask, so this is what I usually do. The use by date is also a lot shorter, as it is with all the fresh face masks. You usually get between 3 to 4 weeks before you need to use it up or throw it.
I’ve been trying to figure out how to explain the scent of this face mask. It doesn’t exactly smell of calamine, which is one of the key ingredients in this, but it does have a soothing scent to it. I personally think it smells gorge, but I can understand if some people think it’s not a nice odour at all! The consistency is quite thick, when it dries on your face, it almost feels quite rubbery!
The first time I used this, I smeared a thick layer on with a clean foundation brush and let it dry while I was in the bath. The instructions say to leave it on around 10 minutes. I got carried away watching YouTube videos and ended up leaving it on for 30 minutes. Probably why it did the complete opposite and left my face even more red than to begin with! Oops…
The second time I used it, I made sure to time myself and rinse it off with warm water and a flannel after exactly 10 minutes. My face did feel softer at first, but I found my skin dried out so quickly after I patted my face dry. I don’t know if that is the calamine powder in the mask, but this would not suit very dry skin types at all.
I’ve found my redness has been soothed slightly, but it hasn’t worked the miracle that I thought it would when I bought the product. I usually fall in love with every Lush product I purchase, so I was a little disappointed to find it didn’t meet my expectations – even though the standards were quite high!
This would be perfect for someone with very oily skin who is fighting acne or scarring – this would definitely make your face feel less oily and the calamine powder would for sure sooth your acne without aggravating it at all. If you are someone with this skin type and you’ve tried it, please let me know your thoughts. This must be the perfect product for someone out there!
I’m looking forward to trying out Don’t Look at Me – Lush’ other face mask that was released around the same time as this one! The brightening effect in it will certainly be perfect for the start of Spring, to rinse away the winter dullness!
